Thanks for protecting our coasts, Rep. Rooney
To protect Florida’s environment, our staff and members do plenty to hold our elected officials’ feet to the fire. Sometimes, though, elected officials deserve our thanks.
That’s why, Environment Florida, along with our coalition partners, ran an ad on June 30 in the Naples Daily News to thank Rep. Francis Rooney for his work to block oil and gas drilling off our coast. Rep. Rooney is the lead sponsor of a bill that would make permanent a moratorium on drilling in the eastern Gulf, rather than letting it expire in 2022 as scheduled.
“We want to thank Rep. Rooney for his leadership,” said Environment Florida State Director Jennifer Rubiello. “As we work to protect our beaches, oceans and wildlife from the dangers of offshore drilling, it’s absolutely vital to have allies like Rep. Rooney.”
As of this writing, Rep. Rooney’s bill has passed out of committee and is moving forward in the U.S. House of Representatives.
